This time the motors worked perfectly, allowing Victor a smooth step. After taking a few more steps he decided that this function was working properly.
"Alright, phase 2, running." Walking over to the door he opened it wide before crossing to the other side of the room. As fast as he could he dashed toward the doorway. The moment he moved the motors kicked in and nearly doubled his running speed. Barely able to stop himself he flipped over, allowing his feet to crash into the wall.
"Well, the shocks work." Moaned Victor as he climbed back to his feet. While he had experienced a jolt, it was nothing like it should have been. The shocks had done their work. "Let's do the next test outside, i'd rather not have my head in the ceiling."

Natalie walked over to him.
"Perhaps we've set the amplification response a little too high? Anyway at least you're alright."
She picked up the laptop, the first aid kit and tossed Victor a spare pilot helmet.
"Just in case."

"Maybe we should have used Valen." Chuckled Victor as he strapped on the helmet. Once outside he began making adjustments to the motors.
"Alright, here goes nothing. Phase 3: Jump and Land." Taking a deep breath Victor jumped. Almost instantly the built in springs released all their stored energy, sending Victor soaring straight up. But what comes up must come down and soon Victor began to plummet back to the ground. "Please don't kill me." He prayed to the braces.
On impact the braces shook and Victor felt a jolt shiver up his legs. He could almost feel the spring coils absorbing the kinetic energy before it locked, keeping them from releasing that energy back out. "Well what do you know, I live!" He said, laughing.

Natalie ran over to him from cover, not that she expected Victor to come crashing down or anything.
"That was incredible! Can you try leaping forwards with those things?"

"Probably could but let's save that for after we finish it." Victor took in a deep breath before reaching down and removing the braces. "Thank you for your help Natalie, i'll let you know when i'm ready to make arm versions of these."

Natalie walked back to her lab.
"Good luck."
