Joshua sighed to himself as he slowly ascended the zip line towards the cockpit of his Fanton. In the hours prior to the upcoming battle he had reviewed the data on his opponent's last battle. Impressive stuff, relatively speaking. This battle, he felt, had the potential to really push him. It was an unfamiliar feeling to Joshua - anticipation. Ordinarily he didn't care much for the fight but in this case having already progressed further than he had ever thought he would he had found a budding determination to go as far as his skills would take him in the tournament.
As the zip line reached cockpit level, Joshua swung himself up onto his Suit's bulky torso and dropped down into the cockpit. Firing up the systems on his Fanton, Joshua quickly got his Mobile Suit up to speed as it plodded towards the arena floor. But as it walked, Joshua wondered if real battle was going to feel like this too.

Brad had barely made in back to the tournament he had enough time to grab where his next opponent was and then he rushed into his suit and started it up. As he started to walk out into the arena he remembered His sister's request and put the helmet on his head. looking around he saw his vision was not to impeded and now ready he walked out into the arena to meet his next opponent.

Joshua watched as the opposing Mobile Suit walked its way into the arena. He nodded to himself - his way of mentally acknowledging that it was time to get into a suitable fighting mindset. He took the moments leading up till his opponent's entrance to program commands into his bits. Which, once his opponent had stopped moving, were launched. They spread out in a huge circle as the two pilots just looked at one another.
Joshua began shunting power to warm up his thrusters, preferring not to act first this time. He keyed his radio. "Your move."

"Hmm Bits Those things are dangerous" Brad thought as he prepared himself for another match. "Lets see how there evasive abilities are. Brad said with a laugh as he grabbed a grenade from it's holster and tossed it into the largest cluster of bits. Then as the grenade was the middle of the cluster he pulled his beam pistol and shot down his own grenade causing it to explode early. At the same moment he had charged to the left and opened fire on his enemy with his arm mounted machine gun. At the same time he was using his shoulder and head vulcans to aim for some of the bits. "He had trained against his sister in bit combat. But he was unsure how well it would translate into a real match.

"Doll identified, target initiating Gamma pattern. Responding with Eta pattern Four-One-Barricade Zero." Joshua muttered to into his microphone so that his suit's on-board datalog could continue to track and record his actions as well as those of his enemy while the fight continued. Gamma was the code word assigned to short-to-melee range attack patterns, whereas Eta was the code for defensive tactics utilizing one's shield and long range weapons for counter-attacks.
Given Joshua's bits had never clustered and were still spreading out across the width of the arena; there was never much danger to them from Brad's grenade. The one bit he tossed it at simply ascended at higher speed, easily escaping destruction. Their entire purpose was to get out of his weapons range, at least, for now. There weren't attacking, just trying to evade fire and live until they were in position at the arena edge. Even the subsequent Vulcan spam was handled much the same way - by running like Hell.
Concerning the fire coming from the enemy right at his Fanton - this defense pattern involved usage of his shield as well as a leftward run - matching the enemy's movement while still allowing for both the shield to cover the cannon from enemy fire and allowing the cannon itself to gain a target lock on the enemy. Joshua felt the rattling as Brad's weapons pinked against his shield before a much louder chu-chink reverberated through the cockpit.
"Unicorn 1, switching to Flintlock-Five. Zero 1." With that, Joshua's cross-hairs swept over the leading left leg of Brad's Leo. The locking achieved, and doing his best to lead the shot - Joshua fired one round from his smooth-bore cannon at the aforementioned leg of the Leo. The intent being fairly obvious in that Joshua hoped to tear that leg right on off and cripple Brad's agility right from the word go even as he gave chase.

Brad hearing the fire Jumped forward jumping over the low aimed shot and while in the air he fired his bazooka at the enemy suit. at the same time he was using both sets of vulcans as well as his arm mounted machine gun to continue harrasing any bits that came close to his suit. As he landed he checked his beam cannon and saw it was nearly charged.

Joshua smiled as the enemy Mobile Suit vaulted into the air - exactly the type of response he had hoped to provoke. Granted, he had not hoped to be fired upon - but he wanted the enemy to slip up and give him just one second of vulnerability. By jumping, Brad had given Joshua his opportunity. There was a drawback to leaping - regardless of how you do it if you don't continue into a roll the moment your feet hit the ground your knees will bend and you won't be moving.
Anywhere.
And that was the moment Joshua intended to capitalize on as he initiated a Gamma attack pattern this time - bringing his thrusters up to full burn as he raced ahead of the bazooka round's flight path and letting it kick up a huge roiling cloud of scorched dirt behind him. With Brad in mid-air there was little opportunity for him to prevent Joshua from getting in close, now. And so, shield locked into position as he got his spear ready for a hard stab at the enemy's beam cannon Joshua switched from Gamma patterns to Delta.
The drones immediately whipped around in a fishtail spin, pointing towards the flank of both Mobile Suits. Although certainly - Brad's covering fire against the bits as they descended would harm some of them the fact was there was no possible way he could stop them all. And if he wasted time trying to stop the bits, it was doubtful he could avoid the spear slicing its way through the cannon on his shoulder. For the bits were not trying to hit Brad's suit directly - by aiming for his flanks from above their intent was to limit Brad's options for avoidance.
The bits, all 10 of them, covered all of the flanks Brad could try and duck into. If they hit from above, their momentum would likely bring Brad to his knees or even cause him to crash if he tried to use a thruster burn. Either way - no matter how much damage he tried to avoid Joshua saw it as highly unlikely that he could avoid a major hit from one of his two sets of weapons. And if Brad tried to hold his ground and exchange weapons fire Joshua was fine with that outcome too.
After all, his Fanton was a walking tank gifted with the heaviest armor of Tier 1. So long as he could remove the cannon from play - there was no way Brad's suit could win a damage race against him. Melee combat might not be his forte - but at this point melee combat was an afterthought. All that mattered was gaining momentum and putting Brad on the defensive right now.
